About BJ Gallagher She is the co-author of several business books, including the international best-seller, A PEACOCK IN THE LAND OF PENGUINS (Berrett-Koehler; 2001), which is currently published in 17 languages, more than 400,000 copies sold, and WHAT WOULD BUDDHA DO AT WORK? (Ulysses Press and Berrett-Koehler; 2001). She also writes women's books, including EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM OTHER WOMEN (Conari Press; 2002) and FRIENDS ARE EVERYTHING (Conari Press; 2005). Articles about her work have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and O, the Oprah Magazine. Before starting her own business in 1991, she was the manager of training and development for the Los Angeles Times, where she had key responsibilities in the areas of high-potential leadership development, management and supervisory training, workforce diversity, teambuilding, career development, sales training, and customer relations. Prior to that, she was the director of staff training and professional development for the University of Southern California, where she directed numerous programs for both faculty and staff. Ms. Gallagher is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of USC, having earned her Bachelor's degree Summa Cum Laude in the field of Sociology. She has completed the course work for a Ph.D. in Social Ethics, also at USC. She is an active member of the National Association of Women Business Owners, the National Speakers Association, the American Society of Training and Development, and PEN Center USA West.
